A yatra to restore relationship with Mother Earth
Thai Manne Vanakkam starts on 2nd Oct 2026 in Tamil Nadu
Samanvaya is happy to provide concept development contribution towards an initiative by the leadeing Organic farmers of the state of Tamil Nadu in 2026. These are amazing organic farm sector leaders who have for a long time travelled and trained organic farmers across the state over two decades. Our participation in this yatra has been in helping the concept development and initial planning of the yatra.
Thai Manne Vanakkam (literally in Tamil it means Salute to Mother Earth), is the name of the yatra that will commence from the highest point of the state in the Nilgiris on 2nd Oct 2026 and reach Chennai, the capital city around the 10th Jan 2027. The long yatra (approx. 650+ kms or 400+ miles) will be traverse through 15+ districts, engage with farmers along the route, have a programme every morning and evening, highlight local issues, seek to inspire local efforts to conserve natural resources and popularize usage of climate resilient local seeds.
There maybe a handful of people walking the entire distance, it is anticipated that there will be a lot more who will join the yatra en route. District level teams have started to organize detailed roadmaps for the programme in each district and also engagement with educational institutions, farmer’s groups, local civil society institutions and citizen groups.
