RELIEF EFFORTS TODAY
1. A fleet of vehicles
have been made available by the Murugappa group for the ground team at
Nagapattinam. These vehicles (about 4 in all for now) were already in
the vicinity with relief materials, they will be used by our team to move
materials and volunteers
2. A team of doctors will (about 5 with volunteers to help them) are willing
to leave Chennai tomorrow (thursday) and work on the field till sunday.
Another doctor couple from Hyderabad may be in Chennai this evening, they
have volunteered for 3 days starting tonight.
3. Sri. Lakshmanan has organised for one mini-truck to carry materials
today from Chennai to Sirgazhi. Another mini-lorry for which he has raised
support will leave for Nagapattinam later this evening. Both these trucks
can be used for further material movement and / or local use. He is also
trying to organise a vehicle to take volunteers from Madurai. He has earlier
today reached a van for the movement of volunteers (for a few days) to
Sirgazhi.
4. A team headed by Sri. Annamalai is busy sorting and re-packing relief
material at the Gandhi Study Centre. Please reach the materials and contact
there Mr. Krishnan, (m: 9381201944) who is volunteering for this work.
5. Relief materials: Smt. Sumitra Gautama of The School, has organised
for relief material collected at Adyar and Basent Nagar sorted out and
to be delivered at the GSC. Sri. Narayanan has organised for a cartons
of water from Team to be delivered later this afternoon.
6. Venkatesh of CIOSA is trying to get hardware equipments - crowbars,
spade, etc. organised. He is also following up on getting a few hundred
stoves organised.
7. Krishna (9841051055) will be handling orientation for volunteers along
with Mr. Krishnan.

The network, tsunami relief and rejuvenation measures- Nagapattinam

Bharathi Women Development Centre is the nodal agency for the relief work.
It is a Voluntary Organisation working in Nagapattinam and Thiruvarur
district of Tamilnadu for over two decades.
Suyam Trust from Chennai
has sent its volunteers to Nagapattinam. They will touch base with the
TNTRI team and plan joint work there.

IMMEDIATE RELIEF NEEDS THAT HAS TO BE COLLECTED
FOR TOMORROW, 30TH DEC 2004
1. Provisions - preferably packed for immediate use by a family
2. Toiletries - Toilet kit for a family (refer to our earlier update for
a detailed list)
3. Kitchen kit - Vessels, water pots, stove and accessories
4. Temporary Shelter - Tarpaulin sheets, canvas tents, accessories

VOLUNTEERS - COORDINATION AND CONTACT
- Volunteers who would like to help in sorting out relief materials and
helping with the loading of trucks. Report to Sri. Krishnan (m: 9381201944)
at the Gandhi Study Centre, Thakkar Bapa Vidyalaya, Vekatnarayana Road.
Krishna (m: 9841051055) who came back last night after visiting relief
camps will provide orientation for volunteers.
VOLUNTEERS
SO FAR
- We have volunteers from WCC (about 10?) thanks to Smt. Shanthi Krishna,
they will be available from tomorrow
- A group of young chartered accountants have volunteered to work the
evenings, thanks to Sri. Lakshmanan
- A group of students at the Thakkar Bapa Institute have been at the job
of sorting out relief materials. There is also a group sorting out materials
at KFI The School under Smt. Sumitra Gautama
- Sri. Bhuvan Pathak of SIDH, Mussoorie has arrived this evening and will
proceed towards relief work with another team specialised in temporary
shelter creation from Ahmedabad tomorrow.
