Updates   |   TTRI Team   |   Organisations   |   On the web

It is a little over 3 months since the Tsunami struck the coast of Tamilnadu causing immense life and material damage. The relief efforts from people in the state and across the country have been over whelming. The Tamilnadu Tsunami Relief Initiative was created within the first few days of the disaster (read about our similar effort earlier immediately after the Gujarat Earthquake) by a group in Chennai. TTRI (and other groups and organisations that have stayed on after the initial phase) have moved onto long term rehabilitative work. The offers of aid come through TTRI have largely been channelised to focused, specific projects managed by agencies that are committed to work on a long term basis.

This initiative has managed to do the following since it started:

1. Network about 15 grassroot agencies in Tiruvarur, Sirgazhi and Cuddalore who are locally trying to attend to the relief work
2. Mobilise, Segregate, Package and Transport Relief Materials from Chennai to the centres
3. Provide information on a regular basis regarding the relief efforts to concerned people through the internet and web site
4. Network and Delegate team of volunteers to the various teams coordinating and executing the relief work
5. Facilitate planning and management for long term reconstruction and rehabilitation by committed agencies
